Mission 204 Mission 204, formally known as ''204 British Military Mission to China'' and also known as ''Tulip Force'', was a mission conducted in World War II, involving an attempt to provide assistance to Chinese Nationalist Army resistance to the Japanese occupation of China during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The first phase achieved very little but a second more successful phase was conducted before withdrawal. ==Background== Shortly after November 1940, Major L. E. Denny had been posted to Chungking, with the aim of becoming a military attaché to China in the event war broke out. With the assistance of Wing Commander J Warburton, relations between the British and the Chinese developed, and a Sino-British agreement was made whereby British troops would assist the Chinese "Surprise Troops" units of guerillas already operating in China, and China assist Britain in Burma.
